Oops, 170 meters deep for an A label<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Indeed, we (Waarborg) and they (GeoComfort) are going to dig 170 meters deep to build the Mediacentrale A-label<\/em> to give. And that is quite deep, namely almost twice the Martini Tower into the ground to tap the right temperature for our installations.<\/p>\n

The Media Center is becoming very sustainable<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Indeed with the realization of one label A<\/em> (!) for a monumental multi-tenant building, and certainly on the scale of the Mediacentrale, this is still unique in the Netherlands. After all, simultaneously scale up 18,000 m2 of offices, professional studios, meeting rooms and a restaurant to the highest achievable label-A<\/em> is and remains a special job.<\/p>\n

You can only become very sustainable through adjustments on a broad front and then this concerns the source (Heat and Cold Storage), the comfort installation (heat and cold), energy-efficient lighting, a good architectural shell and additional sustainable applications including building management systems. and (possibly) solar panels. With an investment of approximately \u20ac 1 million, it is also very ''capital intensive'', but it also ensures a very nice reduction in CO2 emissions and thus our footprint<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What's going to happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a basis for sustainability, the Mediacentrale will initially be equipped with a Heat Cold Storage (WKO). This installation is a kind of power plant that uses the approximately 170 meter deep borehole through a cold and heat exchanger, the spearhead of the power plant, which likes the temperature of 12 to 14 degrees at this depth.<\/p>\n

How does it work? <\/strong><\/p>\n

The WKO installation is used to store energy underground. In the summer, the cooled groundwater (during the winter period by the heat pump) is used to cool the building. In winter, the heated groundwater (which cools the building during the summer period) is used to supply the heat pump with energy. In order to follow this changing energy pattern during the summer and winter periods, the energy is buffered in the soil mass for a longer period, hence the name Heat Cold Storage.<\/p>\n

When will it start? <\/strong><\/p>\n

After about 4.5 years of preparation for this sustainability project, we are leaving now<\/em> loose. And that happened faster than expected because a place became available in the drilling agenda of GeoComfort, the specialist in heat and cold storage. We will start the first preparations for drilling in week 20.<\/p>\n

What do you notice about it? <\/strong><\/p>\n

You don't notice much of the drilling itself. A mobile drilling rig will be placed on the corner of the current bicycle shed and electric charging points. What you do notice is that when the first casing pipe is vibrated into the ground, it takes about half an hour.<\/p>\n

What will also be noticeable is that a 300 m2 drilling area will be set up around the high drilling rig. Here the drillings settle in various containers before they are removed. Removal is done by trucks via the construction road at the front of the Mediacentrale.<\/p>\n

How long does it take? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Depending on the progress, drilling will take around 3 to 5 weeks. The construction site is then cleared and what remains is a 170 meter deep drilling with a half<\/em> power plant in the ground which is closed with a square unit of approximately 1.20 x 1.20 with a steel cover (can carry the heaviest trucks in terms of wheel pressure). The connection to the Mediacentrale goes underground and goes up at the facade to the roof surface on the third floor.<\/p>\n

An extra; new entrances!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please note that the entrance to the parking lot is being renewed parallel to the drilling. The tag system remains unchanged.<\/p>\n

Follow-up; internal power plant <\/strong><\/p>\n

After the underground work, various adjustments are made to the climate installations. The adjustments involve removing the existing cooling machines and renewing the air treatment systems and central heating system for backup and peak supply. During the follow-up actions, the geothermal energy system\/WKO installation (underground part) will be connected to the power plant (above-ground part). Finally, use is made of the air, cold and warm air recovery (WTW) from the central hall. We will keep you informed of these next steps.<\/p>\n

The financial impact energy bill<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rule of thumb is that sustainability costs money. Energy consumption will decrease due to sustainability, but the investment for realization is high. By redirecting the monthly energy costs to the installation, a model is created that ensures that the resident's energy bill (via service costs) is not expected to increase. This is also partly thanks to the house banker, who is following this sustainability process with great interest and has largely facilitated it.<\/p>\n
